Summer Fun....tough on the skin!

This the time of year where we all get a close look at our skin....love that tan right! Well, not so much, we start to appear a bit sallow, dehydrated, and lack that luster and shine! So why is this? We spend time in the sun, playing on the beach, and being in the outdoors ALOT!  That takes a toll on our skin, with sunscreens and sun blocks, our skin has a hard time breathing, as it states, it is a sun block, it is creating a barrior for those UV rays to NOT penetrate into the skin, but at the same time the skin is not able to breathe appropriately. What can we do? Well a great fix is a facial. Take time to get a deep cleanse, exfoliation with a chemical and a mechanical exfoliant, and a hydrating treatment mask. It helps heal the skin, allows it to heal, and sluff off all those dead skin cells....you walk away feeling refreshed and your skin has its natural glow back! Stay tuned for some great advancements at Enso with new product....a great way to enhance your spa experience at Enso. Details to come soon...

Therapeutic Massage is a general term we use to group these modalities. All of our massage and bodywork has therapeutic value. These therapies work to restore the bodies’ natural balance, while reducing pain and dysfunction. These techniques are great for chronic pain, over-use injuries, atrophied areas from disuse, speeds the healing process, assists with stronger healing, and improves over all heath. Check out the list of therapies that Enso offers, you can talk with us and we can customize it to your specific needs.

Deep tissue massage

Our therapist works with you to create the optimum balance of pressure and comfort throughout the session. They will use a variety of muscle release techniques to create the most therapeutic results. A wonderful approach for chronic issues, over-use areas, areas of atrophy, and post injury just to name a few.

Orthopedic medical massage:

A modality that uses a therapeutic assessment, manipulation and release of soft tissue to reduce pain and dysfunction. Restoring structural balance throughout the body allows us to focus on both prevention and correction of injuries and disorders of the muscles, joints, and ligaments. The level of the assessment will depend on the length of your session. Please speak to our staff before booking this session.   Myofascial release

Uses figures, hands, and forearms to provide sustained pressure into myofascial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. This technique uses light or deep pressure depending on your comfort and how the body is responding.

Neuromuscular therapy (NMT)

Utilizes a semi static pressure and trigger points to alleviate acute and chronic pain syndromes. Applying specific massage techniques, stretching, and home care helps to optimize benefits. This specific approach brings about balance between the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system. This therapy enhances the function of joints, muscles and movement

Sports Massage

Is designed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training. Using techniques for pre and post event, maintenance, and rehabilitation you can stay healthy and reduce injury potential to enjoy activities whether its for competition or recreation.

Bayfield, WI, spa, Enso, massage, yoga, spa treatments

Up here on the incredible shores of Lake Superior we tend to celebrate and honor summer, it is not long here, but we love it...which means  we stay up later, we drink more, dip into the chips and BBQ, and enjoy that wonderful delicious ice cream....so how is that working for us? With all that, we also tend to love the outdoors, the biking, running, paddling, sailing, hiking, swimming...but are we paying attention to our body? It is TIRED...what can you do?

When we take the time to sit back, and really relax, we sometimes start to notice things, pains, joints are stiff, muscles are tight. Here are two focuses this post...YOGA and MASSAGE! These two health components can transform you...literally.

So, lets start with point #1 - massage. Try it once a week, or even once a month. You ask why? Well, we work our muscles, constantly contracting them with all the sports and activity, but not giving our muscles and fascia a break. They get bound and tight, and that is what those pains and twitches are when you are trying to get your hamstrings moving, or your hips to stretch....it is all stuck and needs to be released. A therapeutic massage can offer you that relief....along with some YOGA.

Point number 2, yoga is not just stretching. At times yoga gets a bad wrap, people think one  must be flexible and limber and skinny to do it. It is quite the opposite actually. Yoga lengthens the muscles, tendons, and releases pressure on joints, increases blood and lymph flow, creates a better night sleep, and also making you stronger, providing better balance, and a much stronger core....all of which are extreamely important for all the wonderful sports we love to do in the summer.

By incorporating massage and yoga together, you can have a great blend to work with your summer activities. Try it for a month and see if it works for you. Enso Wellness Center & Day Spa can offer a full range of massage services and yoga to fit just about anyone's needs. Check it out, take the time to care for your body...it is the only one you get!

So, we all know what it is like to wake up in the morning, and there it is, smack in the middle of your face!  That very large zit! Man, that is just no fun. Well, for some people it is a larger issue, acne is a problem that is hard to treat and sometimes can be very taxing on the body...and on the spirit. The western cultures tend to move into the world of medicine, which for some people can work wonders, but can you take a natural approach? ABSOLUTELY!! It is a LIFE change, that can be fairly simple. I need to be clear, there are times that these medications are necessary, in no way am I say NO to them, but I simply want to show you some great natural ways to make a change for the better in your skin!

The medications out there for acne can be intense on our body. Products like Accutane and other antibiotics can have some side effects, depression, aggression, heart problems, liver damage, headaches, yeast infections, and a compromised immune system, along with many others. We have to come to the root of Acne, what is it about? It is about an imbalance in the body, and we have to find a way to balance it. Taking an antibiotic is actually masking an overall health and life well being issue. So, what could those things be? Check out this article by Dr. Merkola....loads of info on your skin and ways you can make a natural change for the better!

1. Sugars and Grains: This is probably the single most important step you can take to improve your skin health.  If you can eliminate all sugars and grains for a few weeks there is a major likelihood you will notice rapid improvement in your complexion. Check out this study on a group of men who went on a low gylcemic load diet, after 12 weeks their acne dramatically improved!!! Try taking those simple carbs out of your diet...see what can happen for you!

2. STRESS! - Here it goes people...SLOW DOWN!! Take a moment to relax! Taking time each night to wash the face, exfoliate, and moisturize the skin...and then relax..this will make a HUGE difference, stress can cause our immune system and nervous system to get out of whack..what is our largest organ? OH YEAH! Our skin! This is where you are going to see it first! Take those couple of minutes for yourself and DE-STRESS! Here is a study done on college students, and the effects of stress on their acne!

3. Water: Drink plenty of fresh, pure water every day. Hydrating your body facilitates cell growth and regeneration, elimination of wastes, and sloughing away dead skin cells. Hydration will also improve your skin tone.

4. Sleep: Did you know that a good night's sleep can decrease your stress and lead to clearer skin? Your body's time for healing and rebuilding is at night while you sleep, and this applies to your skin. Sleep is also required for good energy and mood.

6. Natural Skin Care Products: - If you are going to take time to take care of your insides, take time to be aware of what your are putting on your skin externally! Use natural products, Enso uses all natural an 98% organic skin care, check out the options for acne facials....doing one each month for a 6 month period can be of great benefit!

5. How much Gluten is in your diet? -

Check out this info according to The Gluten Free Diet

Try it for a month, see what happens! Here is the cool thing, this is all good for you, not just your skin, but overall for your entire body, and you do not need to spend tons of money to do it. Some of these concepts can be hard to change, but give yourself a month to try it and see if it helps!

Facials? Why do we do them?

I have been thinking lately about facials....mostly about how much I like them...well more like adore them. What is a facial? Well, that is a very simple question a facial cleans, exfoliates, and nourishes the skin. Why should we do them? I get asked that question a lot. The true answer is....many reasons. Here are just a few:

1. Treatment for problematic skin, acne, sun damage, inflammation, etc.

2. Anti- Aging....yup...I hit it didn't I, start to repair what we may have not been to smart about when we were younger.

3. Take yourself into your parasympathic state...this is a component of our nervous system, when we get into this state, our body has a chance to heal and recharge. When we are in this state, it feels like a light peaceful sleep, which in most of our daily lives, we rarely experience. When we get into this state, our immune system has a chance to recharge, and in the end that helps our skin. Our skin is the largest organ in/on our body, and when our immune system is down it shows on the skin, thorugh inflammation, break outs, and sometimes sallow skin. A great place to look would be under your eyes..do you have dark circles...that is a sign that the immune system could be taxed.

4. Pamper yourself...there is massage in a facial. Not only do we work your face, but we work the hands and the feet too. The lymphatic massage to the face will increase your circulation which in the end brings you brighter skin, and it also reduces swelling and inflammation...so those bags and dark circles under the eyes..yup we can help those out!

Have you ever had a facial? This could be the time for you to try it, see how it feels...you may just find it is the perfect way for you to rejuvenate and prepare for summer!

Spring Has Sprung!

Spring has arrived here in Bayfield....how do you celebrate the coming of Spring? For me it seems to always feel like the idea of renewal and starting fresh. The sun comes out, the earth seems fresh, the blooms and leaves start to reach up from the earth to touch the sun. I feel like the earth is giving me another chance to start fresh, and always sorta convenient, since winter seems to always cause us to hibernate and feel a bit more layered..and shedding that layer feels so great! Whether that be getting back into my exercise routine, yoga, or getting a spa treatment. The idea of getting myself fresh and rejuvenated for the summer is always grand! Here are some ideas for your spring rejuventation!

1. Try a Yoga Class! Enso Yoga is a great way to get in shape for summer! Yoga may seem intimidating, but really truly it is an amazing way to change your mind, body, and the soul!!!

2. Spa Treatments! If you have never had a Facial or a Body Treatment, you should really give one a try. Springtime is the perfect time to do any sort of Spa Treatment. Typically our skin is tired, sallow, and very dry from our winters in the northland....give your skin a boost with a facial or a body polish!

During the month of May, you can book a facial and get a body polish for $40! That is a $30 savings! A PERFECT Mother's Day gift!

3. Try a Massage! When Spring arrives we usually start our excerise regimen and we dive in head first....and we get tight, sore, and super stiff....get a massage! Give your body a break and take care of those aching muscles!

Take a moment this spring to think about yourself, and what you need to get rejuvenated! Start fresh and enjoy your spring by taking care of YOU!

ENSO YOGA WORKSHOP COMING IN MAY!

I have been thinking a lot about why I am stiff...where does this come from? This is a question I get all the time as a yoga teacher. I am so TIGHT! I CAN'T do yoga, it is just too hard, I am too stiff, only really flexible people can do that! I get that all the time, this is probably the #1 comment regarding why someone is not taking a yoga class. Well here is the deal...I AM REALLY STIFF! I am a yoga teacher, but I am also a mom, a business owner...which lends to sitting a lot on the computer and also talking on the phone, texting on the phone, using a mouse, slouching at my desk...and I could go on...and that is just my work. I also have a 3 year old who weighs about 37 pounds, try holding that on your right hip for  a while. So, why do I share this with you. Well, this is why I do yoga, I NEED it, it makes me feel amazing, it makes me aware of my body, and how it SHOULD feel. Some days it comes easy, I get onto my mat and it all flows, other days, touching my toes is rough. I take a breathe, and I move through it and in the end, while I lay peacefully in savasana (resting pose) I feel glorious, and I know it is the right thing to do.

I bring this to your attention, to shed light on the fact that yoga does not have to be something scary...or even painful...it should be healing, something you start to crave after you do it for a while. Give yourself the space to try it. You can kick this all off by joining Enso for a Hip Opening Workshop this coming May! We have an incredible teacher, Maddie Gredja, from Chicago who is going to teach us how to be more aware of our hips, and take care of them so we can move more fluidly through our day. Check it out, and then see for yourself if you wanna walk down that yoga road! It is a great journey! I highly recommend it
